Gastric Band

This type of gastric surgery is suitable for patients that have already experienced diseases and harm due to obesity having BMI over 35. Silicone band is implanted around stomach which allows creating an hourglass shape of it. The upper part has a small volume and after ingestion of small amounts of food it fills up quickly and the patient has a feeling of satiety. Gastric band is adjustable, because the size of the stomach can be regulated by increasing the size of the balloon on the band. The adjustments of balloon are made by doctor according to the weight loss results. Gastric band is laparoscopic surgery performed under general anaesthesia and lasts approximately 1 – 2 hours.

Total duration of sick leave is approximately two weeks, which is also the period that sports activities and physical strain should be avoided for. After surgery, patients usually reduces approximately 2 kg per month, and this takes place gradually over a period of 2 years reducing 40kg in average in this period.
