PROCEDURE

Gastric sleeve surgery involves partly stomach removal and reducing its content. The stomach is cut lengthwise and stitched afterwards to create small stomach tube instead of stomach as it was before. Result is obvious as the stomach tube is full already after small amount of food. Advantage of this bariatric surgery is greater speed of weight loss in the first few months immediately after surgery and resistance against improper food habits. Among disadvantages we can add larger risk and irreversibility of surgery. Gastric sleeve is laparoscopic surgery performed under general anaesthesia and lasts approximately 2 hours.

Post Procedure Care

Patient can walk around the bed on the first day after surgery and if there is no complication patient goes home 3 - 5th day after surgery. Total duration of sick leave is approximately three to four weeks, which is also the period that sports activities and physical strain should be avoided for. It needs to be said, that operation itself does not guarantee success as frequent and long-term cooperation with diet doctor is essential. Four weeks after surgery the patient receives a liquid diet and afterwards it is necessary to follow diet and reduce food intake.
