Questions & Answers Eye Care
When comes the moment to undergo an eye surgery?
If your vision begins deteriorating and it constraints the quality of your life, you should start thinking about having a surgery done. Only you can decide to take it. It is good to consult your decision with your ophthalmologist.
What happens during the surgery?
Your own natural lens is removed and in its place there is implanted an artificial intraocular lens. Before the surgery itself, your eyes are examined and measured. Subsequently, your dioptric intraocular lens thickness is calculated. This is done to ensure that the new lens should ideally improve your vision. In most cases, the surgery is performed under local, painless anaesthesia, which means that you cannot feel or see anything during the process. Microsurgical operation offers the possibility of small, less than 3mm long incision. In the same incision your own lens is removed and an artificial intraocular lens is implanted. Modern surgical procedures used in cataract surgery provide rapid postoperative healing and rapid improvement of vision.
How long will I stay in hospital?
In most cases, cataract surgery is a day affair, so even on the same day you can be at your home or hotel.
How long do I have to wait until I return to work after the surgery?
It is recommended to remain at home for several days after the surgery. Most patients can return to work within two to three days.
Will I feel the artificial intraocular lens in the eye?
Artificial intraocular lens becomes part of your eye and you do not realize its presence in the eye.
Do the results from laser eye surgery last?
The effects of this kind of treatment are permanent.
Are there any risks or possible complications?
As with any surgery, complications can not be completely excluded. Their percentage is, however, negligible and rather exceptional. We always offer their solvability, either by application of drops and ointments, or, indeed rarely, reoperation. Your doctor performs always pre-operative examination and he considers all potential risks of complications and personally discuss with you the next steps.
What shall I do after the surgery?
Immediately after the surgery there is a short recovery period. The first day after surgery the eye is covered with a special cover to avoid the possibility of introducing any infection or small injuries. The first few days your eye can be sensitive to light, thus it is advisable to use sunglasses for a few days. To speed up the healing process and prevent infection, it is necessary to apply eye drops prescribed by the doctor. Right after the surgery exclude activities that could irritate the eye (going to the swimming pool, being in dusty or smoky environment, exercise causing pressure on the eye or lifting heavy objects).
How long after surgery will I see without glasses?
Your sight will improve after a few hours after the surgery and it will continually improve. The very best vision can take two to three following weeks.
How will my vision get improved?
The aim of the operation is a good distance vision and near vision without having to wear glasses for reading. Your vision will be brighter and you will notice more contrast colours.
Will I be able to see after the surgery at all distances perfectly?
Patients should notice significant improvement. Given the fact that the TetraFlex lens has been designed as an optimum for all patients, in some cases the reply may not be 100%. In fact, not every person can see perfectly at all distances even if their eyes are healthy. Many people cannot see perfectly at all distances even if they wear glasses or use contact lenses but they are satisfied with their vision. The intraocular TetraFlex lens enables most patients to dispense without glasses for 90-95% of their daily activities. This means that most patients with intraocular TetraFlex lens can read, drive a car, watch TV, work on a computer, apply cosmetics or practice sports. Still, it is a good idea to have one pair of glasses for reading of tiny texts or for reading in worsened conditions of reduced light.
